Room Makeover roundup

The biggest project I handled this year has to be the girls bedroom makeover on a budget that I designed for my daughter!

It was huuuuuuuuge!!

It took me ages!!! It was mostly DIY and on a budget!

It was super fuuuuun!!! I got over some insane amount of design fears!!!

I mean its no small feat to take a place from this

Here is how I did it!!!

Here is the list of inspirtions that I went through!! I went through about a bazillion images (mostly on pinterest coz we love binging on that;) ) But I mean bazilllllllion!!!!!

Ofcourse I was overwhelmed!!! Surrounding yourself with information does that to you. So you need to fine those skills by designing a moodboard.

This is the mood board that I designed for the room!!! You can read more about it here!

Feature wall:

The first step of the transformation process was the feature wall!!!!

colorblock wall

I chose a simple but gorgeous color block wall. I went from the fear of paint to the height of numbness to mastering the mixing and spinning the rollers in a matter of four months!!!!!! I took me a while! But I am proud to say I did it!!!! I got over my fear of paint and I nailed a gorgeous wall for my daughter!!!

You can read about the whole process here!

It was a budget makeover so It was fuuuuuuulllllll of DIYs. From the simple transformations such as covering the toy boxes with chevron boxes or painting a simple tv trolly to act as a side table to the more advanced Ikea furniture hacks.

The entire lsit of DIYs would be:

The tutu wall hanging

The DIY canvas light art

The cloud Decal

The toy swing

The ikea marbled dresser

The DIY ikea chandelier

The DIY headboard

The DIY mint star pillows with pom poms

The DIY ikea ribbon table

The DIY tassel throw

The DIY dream catcher

It was allllot of DIYs

Favourite DIYs:

My favourite DIY has to be the Ikea marbled dresser!!! It tuned out gorgeous!!! Was super easy and is still intact and gorgeous!

Least favourite DIY:

That would be the toy swing!!! It was uneven! Took insane amount of time and most of the time it would look like clutter hagning than cute!

Well executed DIY:

Well the most well executed award goes to The Light art canvas!!! I got allllot of compliments for that and allot of requests for it as well. I have to say the first time I attempted it was a total flop!!! Wasted the entire canvas. And I am so glad to say I went for it again!! And what a beauty it turned out to be!!

Lets skip the running around town for the perfect nitty gritty things I collected over time! But when you are budget designing its always a good idea to survey the market and zero down on the perfect items than something youd compromise on and regret later!

So alllllllot of surveying went into the perfect collection attempts.

It took me two whole days to put everything together!!!! And in its place!!!!

I am sooooo glad to announce the ROOM REVEAL!!!!!!! FINALLLYYY!!!!!

Here is the room reveal day 1

And room reveal day 2

You can read the entire post here and here!!!

The amount of time and effort to work on this makeover is nothing when I heard my daughter screeeeeeaaaaam and squeeeeeel with excitement when she saw the complete look!!!!!!

I think that day my feet didn’t touch the ground! 🙂

All that hardwork paid off!!

I hope you enjoyed this post of my room décor adventure!! And inspired too!!!! Maybe a little!!! I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions about them! And of course would love to hear about your adventures with décor!  Feel free to add in comments below!!!

Have a fantastic day and a gorgeous year!!!

Minimalist wishlist

1.Minimal coat hanger I normally have an aversion for coat hangers! In my opinion its something we all need but dont really want!! But this one I cant really get over!!

2.Bottle grinder The thing that I loooooove about minimalism is sleek lines and texture!!! And if you find it in everday things that will be fantastic!!

3.geometric sculpture I looove the geometric play in sleek unexpectred lines! And the fact that you can use it as a planter is a bonus I cannot look over. Considerig my obsession with geometric and minimal planters as I share here

4.white tray A perfect sleek thing for all your buts and baubles. And is so versatile I think I am going to grab a couple of them!

5.Faceted crystal tumblers A gorgeous blend of sleek design and function answers my geometrical shape mood completely!

6.Contemporary white clock The last thing on my list is an all white minimal clock to add pun in any room!!

Painted DIY ceiling

DSC_4914 (2)DSC_4910DSC_4913

Do you know the design trend for 2016 is painted ceiling!!!

Tooooo bold for me was my first thought! But yeeees ofcouuurse i have to admit whom am i kidding! it looks amazing!!!

But i still didnt realize i will actually get off my back and actually do it. Reason fear of failure too much work sounds impossible on my own

Did i mention i am a sucker for black and white stripes! currently working on my living room gallery wall I had to find replacement for my black and white stripes art canvas for it was not working.

but the living room is screaaaaaming for the dramatic contrasting mesmerizing stripes.

And thn it hit me

The blaah ceiling can be turned into wow!!!!

Here is what you need

Duct tape I used the 2 inch one

paint brush

Here is what I did

This is what I love about stripes! Its like playing with tape like we used to when we were kids!!!

How fun is that

Simply roll out tape and make stripes in whichever pattern you like!

I started from the left end and made the slanting lines leaving a gap of about 2 inches. When I reached the end I started from the middle and did the center triangle. And finished it off with slanting lines on the right!

When you are done with taping just take out the paint and brush and start painting!!!

THE ONNNLY most important thing you need to consider is to be weary of the drips! Coz there will be.

1.Make sure you dont have excess paint on the brush when you dip it in the paint.

2.Cover evvvvvverything below that area for maximum protection and scrubbing avoidance.

3.If you do drip make sure to hop right down and wipe it off till its still wet. So plenty of wiping off clothes on hand!

Let it dry for a day or two

And than remove!!!

To be revealed sooon! But let me tell you it is inteeeense!!!!

Have a gorgeous day ahead!!!

Girls room makeover: Behind the scenes

Some behind the scenes update from the girls bedroom I am working on.. You can see the before pictures here Girls room makeover : Before

Soooo far I have been able to nail down the wall!! Yayy!!! from a blah-as-it-can-get-pink to the softest colorblock wall you can imagine!!.. Here is the transformation!!

you can view it all DIY Feature Wall : Color block wall

Boy! what a difference color can make! Don’t you think!

Now comes some other areas of the room! such as the headboard and the pom pom cushions!

For the headboard Initially I went for a completely different DIY.. Which was a fluffy headboard DIY!

Unfortunately it went all wrong! After hours and hours of adding all the fluff to it the headboard continued to look like a mess! which was definitely not in mind..

So I started weighing some other options and since dhurrie rugs were in my moodboard and I had landed some pretty pink ones which I was planning to use in the room somewhere! so why not drape them over the headboard for a cleaner, finer look!

Did just that and voila! I looove the results! Its definitely cleaner and more of a statement!

To take it to the next level added some nail trim! And Yay!! its definitley working!! 🙂

Sure am a happier person today!! 😀 😀

This is the way design process works! Behind the scenes are definitely not as pretty as they look when its all been put together! Evvvvery creative person goes through this_ out of control messes, ideas gone wrong, challenges, DIYs or pros that turn out less than impressive!

You have to take the u-turn and rake out some ideas again and keep cruising along till you are where you want to be.. Coz If you stay with it long enough_ in the end it will all come together!! (true story)

What were the design elements that went all wrong for you? And how did you recover from them!? Would love to hear from you!!!

Working on the Pom pom cushions right now!! Lets see how they turn out to be!!

Will be sharing the room reveal on the blog soon! So stick around!!!

Have a wonderful day!!!!
